Online and paper applications are accepted year-round; applications for SUN Bucks 2026 will be processed starting May 2026 and end August 31, 2026. Applications submitted after that date will be considered for Virginia SUN Bucks 2027.

Income Limits

    Apply for Virginia SUN Bucks.
  • If your household income is above the limit, you are likely not eligible.

What Happens After You Apply

  • Some households may be asked to provide proof of information listed on the application
  • VDSS will review applications starting May 2026
  • Benefits will be issued on a rolling basis beginning June 2026

How Will I Get My Benefits?

Household Receives SNAP Household Does Not Receive SNAP
  • SUN Bucks will be added to your existing EBT card
  • Check your card balance for the deposit
  • Benefits will be loaded onto a new SUN Bucks card
  • The card will be mailed to the address on file with your school or application

  •        May 1-June 14, 2026, for recorded information.
  •        June 15-August 31, 2026, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a customer service representative who can take your application and answer questions.
  •        September 1-30, 2026, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for a customer service representative who can answer questions.
